Ford RS 1600 MK1 Escort (Rare Special Build Order)
Rare Ford RS 1600 with outstanding and a rare development and rallying history. Sold directly by Ford as a special build order (SBO) to the infamous Allard family in Putney in for rallying development had 14 factory fitted modifications from new. The family has confirmed this was indeed that car.
It is a 5 owner car prior to myself and all but one have confirmed ownership and one owner has verified the shell and provided further photographs to an already extensive history file including early V5's.
The car won the Belgium YPRES historic rally in 2004 in the hands of Paul Lietaer and has been successful on other international events.
Recently completed and sympathetically restored from a shell up restoration at great expense, the car retains its original shell and many of the original and period parts that make the car so unique. The early Swindon Cosworth Twin Cam was rebuilt by Jondel Race Engines, has a new wiring loom, refurbished gearbox, axle, brakes but all historic and period.
It has been seen a few times since the restoration at selected high profile demonstrations but has hardly been used since the re build.
