Description
Want something small enough to fit on the driveway at home, that you can drive on a normal licence in the outside lane but that carries a full size car and then also provides somewhere to stay in comfort when you get where your going? Me too! I was tired of towing, B&Bs, tents, wet cars or super early starts and then eating a grotty burger in the back of a car for lunch so designed and had the following race home built to solve the issues. It fits all requirements, allowing me to securely store my race car in a fully dry environment when not in use, take it to events without being stuck in the middle lane or worrying about a trailer and then also sleeps up to 4 in comfort once we arrive - and unlike the 7.5 tonne option it will fit on the drive and can be driven on a normal driving licence with ease and doesn't cost the earth to buy or maintain. Unfortunately the car it was meant to house has now gone so even though it has just been finally finished it has to go too. Great time to buy if you need winter storage and car transportation. General:Make: FiatModel: DucatoYear: 1996Engine: 2.5TDMileage: 196,700Dimensions: Will fit car of following max dimensions are Length 3.55m x Width 2.27m x Height 1.42m with wheel track from 1.01m to the full 2.27m.External Van Dimensions are Length 6.5m x Width 2.36m x Height 3.15mSleeps: 4 (2+2)MOT: 12 monthsTAX: 6 months taxServiced: Oct '09 Interior:The interior of the van was completely stripped out prior to the custom internal ramps and folding rear being fabricated. Once complete (and it took over 6 weeks to get it right) the wiring was installed and then the walls insulated with 25mm foam board throughout, ply and carpeted with BMW Mini carpet material. The floors were then fitted (linoleum in the kitchen are and rubber matting on the ramps and rear area) Access can be gained from the side (double doors) or rear (above mentioned fold down car access door). Kitchen: * Beech kitchen units (new) * Sink and drainer with glass cover (new) fitted on a beech work surface * 4.5 litre propane gas (new) feed to hob and 3-way fridge freezer and 4 burner gas hob * Fiamma 23 litre water roller (new) connected to a Whale manual pump tap (new) * Includes hanging for helmet and two sets of overalls * 12v strip light above the sink * Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Alarm fitted Sleeping:* Double memory foam mattress (new) above the car storage area accessed by removable aluminium step ladder (new) that can be moved to the rear storage for access. Has 12v strip light and 12v charging socket and security net to stop anyone falling out in the night (new). * Room for another 2 sleeping or more storage above the cab which has an open able window both sides and custom made cushions Car Loading:Drop down rear door and ramps made by MNR and made specifically to take an MNR Vortx (Locost, MK Indy, Caterham etc) but also everything from a Mini upwards should be good. (See max dimensions) * The rear door folds down with the aid of a large spring to take the majority of the load and then two additional ramps fold out of the door to allow cars of low ride height to roll on with ease. Two internal fold down ramps allow for the car to take up the valuable internal space during transport but when the car is out they fold all the way up out the way to open up the kitchen area for use. * 3500lbs electric winch (new) floor mounted under sink and run from leisure battery next to it that is charged by the van and solar panel. * Two 12v strip lights (new) along the wall * Tie down straps included * Van was designed and originally plated to carry 4.3 tons so will easily take race cars in the 400-700 region. Have driven my Vortx around without any sign was even in the back. Cabin: * Ford Transit drivers seat (new) with armrest * Sony CD head unit * Fiamma internal silver padded insulation screens * Steering wheel lock Storage:Apart from under the sink, above the cab and the kitchen units there is extra storage on the top deck behind the sleeping area which houses a custom made jerry can holder (new) and four jerry cans and pourer. Also has room for four plastic stacking crates, 240vcable and tie down straps all included). There is enough room to remove crates and have 4 wheels/tyres stored here instead if you prefer. External:I have done very little work outside as far as bodywork goes, a little rust treatment here and there but it was pretty clean and straight when I got it. It is not perfect by any means as you would expect with its age but the aesthetics were not of a great deal to me. * 4m Fiamma F45i wind out awning (new) * Seitz double glazed openable window (new) with blind and fly screen Mechanical: * The Ducato is fitted with the Fiat 2.5 Turbo Diesel engine and has done just shy of 200,000 miles but pulls strongly and apart from some minor smoke on starting which I assume is the valve stem seals weeping a little when left to stand (which clears quickly on the road) it passed MOT inc emissions in Oct with a 2 mile drive to testing station so that was reassuring. * Had a new gearbox in last 3000 miles (previous owner) and has a full oil and filter change for the MOT in Oct. * Air suspension at rear gives a smooth ride and with release valve would allow back of van to be dropped down 8-9 inches if required. Electrics: * Solar powered roof vent (new) is great for keeping the internal temperature down in the summer and keeping dampness away in the winter. * Leisure battery (new) fed by split charge relay (new) from engine running or large 15w 12v solar panel (new) mounted on the roof which keeps the battery topped up when the van isn't moving. * 240v can be fed from external socket on drivers side (new) via 20m connector cable (included) and runs the fridge, internal 240v sockets and 240v lighting and is wired through the correct 2-way consumer unit. Other: * MOT'd as campervan for far reduced insurance costs (with zero no-claims this cost me PS242 to insure a year with Adrian Flux) * 2 sets of keys * Spare van battery (can be topped up with the solar panel internally just in case) * Helmet not included but everything else in the pictures is inc stirage boxes, straps, power cable and 4x 20L fuel jerry cans. Van is based South Manchester please contact if you have any questions or want more photos.
